Train riders

The kids had a blast riding the train to Rock Hill for a visit. Thanks for picking us up and dropping us back at the station, D!

New Bed!

Jack finally outgrew his crib, so we put an old queen size bed that we had in there. He loves it. Now we have extra room for guests as well, if we can get all of his "babies" (stuffed animals) off of it!

Party

We had a little party one night at our house (June?). All of the kids went upstairs and went bonkers. There were at least 10 of them. The parents stayed downstairs and ate and drank and talked. Curtis did his part. A good time was had by all!

Memorial Day

Jack still talks about playing Mario likes it's the Holy Grail. Lily still loves to dress up!

Kiddie pool

All the neighborhood kids love the pool we set up in the front yard. They love to run and jump in it, and they go all the way across the street to get a running start. We've tried to explain the physics and how they reach max velocity with about a 3 foot head start, but it's more fun to run screaming from the other end of the cul-de-sac. Pros: makes them more tired at the end of the day. Cons: high risk of lacerations due to tripping at full speed going over the curbs.

Soccer

We did this thing this spring called Smart Start Soccer. Jack was old enough, Lily wasn't at the time. They mostly concentrated on just learning skills like passing, kicking, stopping the ball with their feet, etc. The majority of each session was spent convincing Jack to actually participate, rather than run back to Mama. They should rename it "Teaching Parents Patience," but I guess that's the other name of "parenting."

On the last day they had a little scrimmage. Jack had a major pout fest because they ran out of yellow jerseys and they tried to get him to wear a green one. No way! Eventually one of the other parents convinced their kid to trade and Jack could play. Yay! Lily enjoyed going because she always found one of our neighbors who had bribes for good behavior.

Tumblebus

iBA Tumbler Tumblebus is a program where the kids get to practice some age-appropriate gymnastics type play. The company would literally take a bus and turns it into a mobile gym, and it would come every week for the kids to participate. Jack and Lily loved it, (when they were still in daycare). In May, they had their end of year celebration, sort of like a recital, where the kids displayed their talents, then had a big party afterwards. Lily loves her buddy AJ.

NC Zoo

Also in May, we took a trip to the NC Zoo in Asheboro. Great times, lots of running around. We ran into an old friend (Julie from RH who now lives near us). The kids seemed to enjoy the merry-go-round and the playground equipment as much as anything. Mom and Dad enjoyed getting some tired kids and seeing the animals.

Eno River State Park

Went for a walk recently at the Eno River State Park, just down the road from our house. Kids got worn out (always a good thing) and we got a little wet in a brief rainstorm. Fun!

Notice the grin on Cindy's face on the bridge. That's because she's laughing at me being petrified. I had to take both hands off of the wires in order to take the picture, and I was scared!

Durham Bulls Baseball

Not much beats a warm spring night and minor league baseball. The kids had a ball (although they liked the cotton candy and play areas more than the sports) and the home team (Durham Bulls) won!

Easter 2010

Easter this year was a busy weekend. A total of 3, count 'em...3!, egg hunts, a visit from Granny, dyeing eggs, lots of candy...what else do you need?

In reverse chronological order...

We had a Sunday afternoon egg hunt and block party. It was unusually hot for early April, so that made the beer so much better. Beer on Easter? What would my grandmother say...

New dress for Easter. Lily loved her hat, and everyone who saw her loved it too.

Of course the Easter bunny visited...

And then there was the traditional Bunny cake...

Hunting eggs on the front lawn...

Most of the dye got on the eggs. Most.

And Jack loves to pose for the camera...
